Apple CEO Steve Jobs set an exacting standard for the device's physical design one anecdote relates an occasion on which Jobs dropped a prototype into an aquarium in front of engineers to demonstrate from bubbles leaving its housing that the current design contained unused internal space. The original iPod's physical appearance was inspired by the 1958 Braun T3 transistor radio designed by Dieter Rams, while the wheel-based user interface drew on Bang & Olufsen's BeoCom 6000 telephone. The power supply was then designed by Michael Dhuey, while the display was designed in-house by Apple design engineer Jonathan Ive. Within eight months, Tony Fadell's team and PortalPlayer had completed a prototype. Fadell partnered with a company called PortalPlayer to design software for the device this work eventually took shape as the iPod OS. Time constraints forced Fadell to develop various components of the iPod outside Apple. Because most of Apple's engineering manpower and resources were already dedicated to the iMac line, Fadell hired engineers from his startup company, Fuse, and veteran engineers from General Magic and Philips to build the core iPod development team. įadell found support for his project with Apple Computer and was hired by Apple in 2001 as an independent contractor to work on the iPod project, then code-named project P-68. Rubinstein had also already made substantial progress on development of other key hardware elements, including the device's screen and battery. Rubinstein had already discovered the Toshiba hard disk drive while meeting with an Apple supplier in Japan, ultimately purchasing the rights to it for Apple. Fadell had previously developed the Philips Velo and Nino PDA before starting a company called Fuse Systems to build the new MP3 player, but RealNetworks, Sony and Philips had already passed on the project. Īt Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ direction, hardware engineering chief Jon Rubinstein recruited Tony Fadell, a former employee of General Magic and Philips, who had a business idea to invent a better MP3 player and build a complementary music sales store. To address these deficits, the company decided to develop its own MP3 player. They also identified weaknesses in existing models' attempt to negotiate the trade-off between capacity and portability flash memory-based players held too few songs, while the hard drive based models were too big and heavy. Portable MP3 players had existed since the mid-1990s, but Apple found existing digital music players "big and clunky or small and useless" with user interfaces that were "unbelievably awful". From left to right: iPod 5th generation in a case, iPod 4th generation, iPod Mini, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle During the middle of 2010, iPhone sales overtook those of the iPod. While the iPhone and iPad have essentially the same media player capabilities as the iPod line, they are generally treated as separate products. As of iOS 5, separate Music and Videos apps are standardized across all iOS-powered products. īefore the release of iOS 5, the iPod branding was used for the media player included with the iPhone and iPad, which was separated into apps named "Music" and "Videos" on the iPod Touch. Prior to macOS 10.15, Apple's iTunes software (and other alternative software) could be used to transfer music, photos, videos, games, contact information, e-mail settings, Web bookmarks, and calendars to the devices supporting these features from computers using certain versions of Apple macOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Some versions of the iPod can serve as external data storage devices, like other digital music players. At over 20 years, the iPod brand is the oldest to be discontinued by Apple. Apple discontinued the iPod product line on May 10, 2022. Apple sold an estimated 450 million iPod products as of 2022. The first version was released on October 23, 2001, about 8 + 1⁄ 2 months after the Macintosh version of iTunes was released. The iPod is a discontinued series of portable media players and multi-purpose mobile devices designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The two options that you will see as a result of this step are Update or Check for Update. If you want to update to iOS 11.x or later, you can do so by connecting your iPod touch to your computer and syncing it. The older iPod touch (4th generation) can be updated to iOS 11.2.2, but you will be unable to use features such as FaceTime and AirPlay that are included in later models. If you have an iPod touch (5th generation) or later, you can update your device to the most recent operating system, iOS 11. You Can Update Your Ipod Touch To The Latest Operating System The update also includes new Animoji and multitasking features for the iPad, as well as support for AirPlay 2. The new iOS 13 can now be downloaded and installed on all existing iPhones and iPads. This will allow you to install custom packages and themes that are not available through the App Store. Finally, you can also get more iOS on your device by jailbreaking it. You can find these apps in the App Store. Another way to get more iOS on your device is to download and install apps that are compatible with your device. You can do this by going to Settings > General > Software Update. In January, I posted a quick piece about the challenges Captivate 2019 output has with the JAWS 16 screen reader - more precisely, how the experience falls apart in Internet Explorer. When we come face-to-face with our imperfections, we have a choice: we can deny and deflect, or we can engage and improve. That’s the only way we get better at anything. The next time you feel the urge to say, “I’m not racist,” replace it with, “I don’t want to be racist.” Instead of digging into denial, learn to do better. I should rethink what I’m saying/doing in light of that fact.” That shifts my thinking, so instead of jumping straight into denial and attempts to defend my character, I’m more likely to look at how my actions may be misrepresenting my intentions, whether I’ve overlooked something or acted in ignorance. When it comes to racism, sexism, homophobia, etc., I’ve found it’s healthier to think, “I don’t want to be” instead of “I’m not.”įor example, if someone says, “That thing you just said/did is racist,” instead of thinking, “I’m not racist! I don’t hate black people!” it’s much healthier to think, “I don’t want to be racist. Can you explain?” He did, and now I try to avoid using that word anymore. I immediately had to fight down the urge to say, “But I’m not a racist,” and replaced it with, “I didn’t know that. A friend of mine told me I had said something racist. When we shift focus, then we can focus on changing behavior.Ī couple of years ago, I said that I felt “gypped” about something. The problem is whether I said or did something racially offensive. The question is not whether I am a racist. Instead, we should stop focusing on identity - in this case, the word racist - and focus on behavior instead. It would be like my wife confessing to me that I said or did something hurtful, and I responded with, “I’m not abusive.” I cannot do better if I am unwilling to acknowledge my behavior. Once we put all of those together, it’s easy to say, “I’m not a racist.” Unfortunately, that statement also closes off any opportunity for growth or improvement. From this perspective, systematic racism cannot exist. Either I hate all people of color entirely, or I’m not a racist at all. When we define racism this way, we can only be guilty of it if we intend harm. I can only do something racist if I intend to. Robin DiAngelo, in her video Deconstructing White Privilege, makes the case that we define racism in specific ways that make it almost impossible to take personal accountability for our racist thoughts and actions. Therefore, you must have misinterpreted that terrible thing I said or did. Instead, it put the burden back on the injured party. It says that I don’t need to change anything about myself. This statement - “I’m not a racist” - completely absolves us of personal accountability. We deny it’s who we are, but it’s also the completely wrong thing to say. Someone says or does something blatantly racist someone calls them out and they defend themselves by saying, “I’m not a racist.” Being told we did something racist hurts, so we become defensive. You’ve heard it time after time - from celebrities, business owners, and many public figures. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Do frogs hibernate in oregonUsually, the dry season in Africa lasts throughout the months of October to April. How long do African Dwarf Frogs Hibernate? Image Credit: chelsea_ann_33, Instagram Since it doesn’t get as cold in Africa-the most likely place to see them-during the winter months as it does in America, these animals don’t need to hibernate during this period. As a result, their bodies dry out quickly as well, which is fatal for these tiny amphibians. The bodies of these aquatic frogs rapidly lose moisture when out of water. This is due to the fact that in the dry season, most water bodies dry out, and it is a well-known fact that these frogs do not survive for long outside of water. But, as opposed to other frog species, which hibernate during the winter, African dwarf frogs actually hibernate during the dry season in Africa. Now, let’s get back to the original question. Do African Dwarf Frogs go into Hibernation? Image Credit: manuel.pasch, Instagram If they are to survive this difficult season, they must make sure they find the ideal location. In the winter, it is far too cold for reptiles and amphibians to be active without freezing to death because they are cold-blooded animals (unable to produce their own body heat using their metabolism). Bears, jumping mice, turtles, snakes, and even numerous insects all engage in this behavior. The process of hibernation involves the animal’s metabolism being slowed down to the point where it uses very little energy even its heart rate and body temperature are decreased, and it typically doesn’t eat. To slow their metabolism and increase their longevity, the majority of amphibians that live in harsh, cold climates typically hibernate. This is a trait seen commonly among most amphibians. It becomes clear how amazing nature really is when you take into account the various ways that animals can adapt to environmental changes in order to survive. In order to find out whether African dwarf frogs hibernate or not, we must first know what hibernation exactly is. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Metal slug 7 for pcThis being a Metal Slug title, it has no shortage of rampant arcade action or intensity. I may not generally be good at high-intensity gaming, but it is something I truly love to delve into. The number one thing I like about this game is the action, speed, and intensity of the gameplay. The better the player does during these missions, the more points they will be awarded and raise their ranking which ranges from "Recruit" to "General of the Army". some stages will score the player on how many soldiers they destroy while other's will score the player depending on how many POW's they rescue). There are also three difficulty settings to choose from: Beginner, Normal and Hard.Ī new feature is the 80 mission Combat School option which allows players to partake in a series of special missions that will award players depending upon the required action of the stage (ex. The standard power-ups are also present such as heavy machine gun, rocket launcher and laser gun to name a few as well as the ever dangerous "Metal Slugs" that are scattered throughout the seven stages of the game, ranging from the standard tanks to jet fighters and even bi-pedal tanks. Along with these new attacks, the game also utilizes the DS' dual screen capabilities with the main game being played on the top screen and a scrollable map on the bottom screen that show's locations of freed POW's and items picked up as well. Also, four characters (Marco, Tarma, Ralf & Clark) have a special attack that can be used by pressing "Up" on the D-Pad and hitting the "L" button and the "Y" button. There are some new melee attacks as well when using the D-Pad and pressing the "Y" button to unleash the attack, each attack differ depending upon the character selected. The "A" button is used for throwing grenades and the basic melee attack as the player comes in close quarters with an enemy with the "R" button to change their primary weapons. Like many others in the series, the gameplay is basically the same, having the player using the D-pad to move their character around on the screen and using the "Y" button to fire their primary weapon. The player chooses from six different heroes (Marco, Eri, Tarma, Fio, Ralf and Clark) as the embark on a mission to stop the diabolical (and persistent) General Morden as he unleashes hordes of henchman and machinery to stop the player, as well as make allies with a new and more dangerous army in the process. Metal Slug 7 is the eighth entry in the Metal Slug saga and an exclusive to Nintendo's DS handheld system. 12/30/2023 0 Comments No peek chicken recipe pampered chefAfter cooking and cooling completely, be sure to wrap your no peek chicken tightly. For example, “CHAS” is used for “JPMORGAN CHASE BANK” Section 1 (the first 4-characters “ AAAA”): This code is used to identify the institution’s global presence (all branches and all divisions around the world). It can be broken down to these sections: AAAA – BB – CC - DDD Let's take this imaginary 11-character swift code: AAAABBCCDDD Whenever an eight-character code is used, then it is referring to the headquarters (main office) of the institution. Here is how an 11-character code is broken down and what each section of characters represents. They consist of eight or eleven characters. Swift codes are broken down into sections, in the same way telephone numbers are broken into sections, and every section reveals some information about the institution that was assigned this code. The acronym SWIFT stands for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication. stands for “Bank Identifier Codes” (“bank” instead of “business”) but that is incorrect since non-financial institutions can also join the swift network.Ī “ BIC code” can be seen by many different names, like “ SWIFT code” (most common), “ SWIFT ID”, “ SWIFT-BIC”, “ SWIFT address”, “ BEI” (that comes from “Business Entity Identifier”), or even “ ISO 9362”, which is the standard format that has been approved by the ISO organization. These codes were initially introduced by the SWIFT organization as “swift codes” but were later standardized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as “BIC” meaning “Business Identifier Codes”. 12/30/2023 0 Comments Muzzle for small dogs petcoThis muzzle is perfect for flat-faced breeds that otherwise wouldn’t get a proper fit from a standard muzzle.
